Youyi Pass is located on the border between China and Vietnam, known as the ‘South Gate of China’, is one of the nine famous passes in China, and is also the only one that still has the function of customs clearance, with a history of more than 2000 years. It was first set up in the Han Dynasty, called Yongji Pass in the beginning of the Han Dynasty, then changed to Jieshou Pass and Danan Pass, changed to Zhennan Pass in the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, changed to Munan Pass in 1953, and named Friendship Pass in 1965. Youyi Pass is a window for opening up to the outside world and a tourist and cultural attraction, which is not only a national class port, but also a national 4A level tourist attraction, a national cultural relics protection unit, and a patriotism education base in Guangxi, and has witnessed a number of major historical events.

The existing Friendship Pass Tower was rebuilt in 1957, and the words ‘Friendship Pass’ on the tower were inscribed by Marshal Chen Yi. On the right side of the Pass Tower is Jinji Mountain, on the top of which there are three gun emplacements, namely Zhennan, Zhenzhong and Zhenbei, each equipped with a twelve-barrelled cannon produced by the German Krupp Arsenal, and at present the two cannons in Zhennan and Zhenbei are still well-preserved. On the left side of the gate tower is Zuo Bi Mountain, on the top of which there is a Zhen Guan Battery, which was built in the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 600 years. The north side of the building for the French building, is the end of the Qing dynasty, the whole of guangxi border on the news agency, mainly responsible for the border of the foreign affairs and maintenance of law and order, equivalent to the current foreign affairs agencies and border police force, has been more than 100 years of history. On the left and right sides of the gate tower are the remains of the ancient road and ancient city wall which were built in the Ming Dynasty and were more than 1,000 metres long leading to ZuoBiShan and RightAuxiliaryShan, which constitutes the ancient architectural group of YouyiGuan together with YouyiGuan Gate Tower, ZhenGuan Battery, JinJiShan Battery, Qing Dynasty Ten Thousand People's Tomb and French Style Building.

The ‘zero kilometre’ of Friendship Pass refers to the intersection of the end of National Highway 322 in China and the beginning of Highway 1 in Vietnam. On the Chinese side of the road, there is a sign ‘End of Chinese National Highway 322’; on the Vietnamese side of the road, there is a highway milestone, one side of which is engraved in Vietnamese ‘Hanoi, 172 kilometres’, marking 172 kilometres from here to Hanoi. On the other side, there is an inscription ‘N0.0’, which means ‘No. 0 (milestone)’. 1965, after China renamed the Mutnam Pass as the Friendship Pass, the Vietnamese side also renamed the corresponding crossing point on the Vietnamese side as the Friendship Crossing, so the ‘Kilometre Zero’ is a milestone on the Vietnamese side of the road. Therefore, on both sides of the ‘zero kilometre’, there are two ‘Friendships’ coexisting at the same time, which has become a historical witness of the friendship between China and Vietnam.
