Longhua District of Haikou City is located in the center of Haikou City, enjoying the reputation of “Pearl of the Coconut Sea”. It is connected with Meilan District and Qiongshan District in the east, neighboring with Xiuying District in the west, facing the Qiongzhou Strait in the north, and relying on Ding'an County in the south. Developed regional transportation, highway network covers the whole area, the East Highway through the five towns; around the city highway hanging across its waist, connecting the East, West, Haiwen three highways; East Ring Light Railway through the city.
Legend has it that Haikou is the land of the Dragon, Longhua District's name is also due to historical legends, within the jurisdiction of the town named after the Dragon, streets, villages, ditches, etc. everywhere, the historical history originated in the Han Dynasty, opened in the end of the Song Dynasty early Yuan.
From the Han Dynasty, it belonged to Guangxi. In 627 AD of Tang Dynasty, Haikou was subordinate to Qiongshan County. The Ming Dynasty in 1370 AD, assigned to Guangdong. October 16, 2002, approved by the State Council, the abolition of the city of Qiongshan and Haikou City, Xiuying District, Xinhua District, Zhendong District, to the former city of Qiongshan and Haikou City, the former Xiuying District, Xinhua District, the Zhendong District of the administrative divisions of the establishment of the city of Haikou Xiuying District, Longhua District, Qiongshan District, Meilan District. It now has 5 towns (Chengxi Town, Longqiao Town, Xinpo Town, Zun Tan Town, Longquan Town), 6 streets (Zhongshan Street, Binhai Street, Jinmao Street, Datong Street, Haikeng Street, Jinyu Street), as well as 78 residents' committees, 51 villagers' committees, and 310 natural villages.At the end of 2023, the resident population of the district was 833.3 thousand people, of which 766.3 thousand people were in cities and towns, and 67 thousand people were in villages; the household population was 763 thousand, and the rural population was 67 thousand; and the household population was 7.5 thousand. 67,000 people; the household population was 648,500 people. There are 48 ethnic groups in the district, including Han, Li, Zhuang, Miao, Manchu, Tujia, Hui, etc., with Han as the main ethnic group, accounting for about 96% of the total population. The urbanization rate reaches 91.96%. In 2023, the GDP of the region will be 79 billion yuan, an increase of 8.1%, with the total amount ranking first among all counties (districts) in the province. The local general public budget revenue will be 4.7 billion yuan, an increase of 4.6%. Total retail sales of consumer goods will reach 41 billion yuan, an increase of 5%. The disposable income per capita of urban permanent residents was 47,718 yuan, an increase of 6.4%; the disposable income per capita of rural permanent residents was 22,072 yuan, an increase of 8.9%.
Longhua District is bordered by the sea to the north, with a coastline of about 8 kilometers. Located in the tableland and plains, the terrain is gentle, high in the west and southeast, low in the center and north, the vast majority of the area in the elevation of 100 meters below sea level, the terrain is slightly long heart-shaped. The surface is mainly Quaternary basal volcanic rocks and loose sediments of the fourth system distributed over a large area, the entire region is basically divided into the northern part of the landscape to the coastal terrace type landforms of coastal plain area, the western part of the lava table area with typical volcanic landforms, east and south along the Nandujiang River terrace area. Located in the northern edge of the low-latitude tropics, belonging to the tropical monsoon maritime climate, warm and humid in the spring, high temperature and rainy in summer, wet and cool in the fall, more typhoons, drought in winter is not cold, cold air currents invade when there are bouts of cold. The average annual temperature is 24.3℃; the average annual precipitation is 2067 millimeters. The average annual evaporation is 1834 millimeters, and the year-round winds are mainly from the southeast and northeast, with an average annual wind speed of 3.4 meters per second.
