- Beihai City is located in the south of Guangxi, on the north-east coast of the Beibu Gulf, between longitude 108°50′45″~109°47′28″E and latitude 20°26′~21°55′34″N, with a north-south span of 114 kilometres and an east-west span of 93 kilometres. The city has a total land area of 333,700 hectares. The terrain slopes from north to south, with hills in the northeast and northwest, terraces and plains along the southern coast, and alluvial plains downstream of the Nanliu River. The topography of the city is narrow from north to south and long from east to west, in the shape of a rhinoceros horn.

In 2023, the average temperature of Beihai City ranged from 23.8 to 24.3°C. Compared with the previous year, it was 0.6°C higher in Beihai City, 0.8°C higher in Weizhou Island, and 0.9°C higher in Hepu County. Annual precipitation ranged from 1956.5 mm to 3232.9 mm, 77% higher in Beihai City, 35% higher in Weizhou Island and 45% higher in Hepu County compared with the previous year. During the year, there were three typhoons affecting Beihai City (numbered tropical cyclones entering north of 18°N and west of 112°E affecting Beihai City), of which the 12-hour precipitation of 641.2 mm (data from Yaping Observatory) and the 24-hour precipitation of 780.3 mm (data from Yaping Observatory) on 25-26 October exceeded the historical extreme value of Guangxi during the impact of Typhoon Samba. Beihai City has abundant rainfall, and river runoff is mainly formed by rainfall. There are 23 rivers in the city with watersheds larger than 50 square kilometres, with a total length of 1,081 kilometres and a river network density of 0.076 kilometres/square kilometre. The Nanliujiang River is the largest river in Beihai City, with a watershed area of 1381.2 square kilometres. Beihai is a multi-ethnic region, with a predominantly Han Chinese population and a relatively small ethnic minority population. in 2023, the city's ethnic minority household population was 45,000, and there were three ethnic minorities with populations of more than 1,000 (household): the Zhuang, the Manchu, and the Yao.
