Chaoyang District is one of the six urban districts in Beijing. It is named for it being situated outside Chaoyang Gate. It is located in the south central part of Beijing with an area of 470.8 square kilometers. By the end of 2023, the permanent population of the whole district was 3.446 million. In 2023, Chaoyang District realized a gross regional product of CNY 838.72 billion.

Chaoyang District, an important center for foreign affairs, has gathered nearly 100% of foreign embassies in China, the capital's 90% international media organizations, 80% international organizations and international chambers of commerce, more than 70% international investment companies and regional headquarters, more than 65% foreign-invested financial institutions and 50% foreign population. Chaoyang District is a centralized region for the foreign community. Wangjing, Maizidian, Asian Games Village, Sanlitun, Jianwai and other subdistricts all have international communities.

Chaoyang District is an area for the international exchange in the fields of science, technology, culture, and sports in Beijing. As a national high-tech park, Zhongguancun Chaoyang Park strives to develop high-end industries such as mobile communications and information services, new energy, advanced equipment, and biomedicine. It is a gathering place for international R&D innovation and serves as a growth pole for strategic emerging industries. Chaoyang District is rich in cultural and athletics resources with a large number of national cultural facilities such as the Workers' Stadium, National Olympic Sports Center, and the Capital Library.
